Watch: Chiefs – Stay (ft. Nick Acquroff)
Chiefs, the latest in a line of Australian producers and songwriters to catch our attention, has unveiled an angst-ridden video for his track “Stay”. It bodes all kinds of well with the release of his debut EP.
With Flume-esque reverb, intro-snare and Chet Faker vocals (courtesy of Nick Acquroff of Sons et al.), the Oz-vibes are abound, but the composition is entirely Chiefs’ own.
The track stays at a tense simmer, never breaking nor boiling over but strung taut, and Acquroff’s vocals complement the rhythms and lyrics to a T. So do the visuals (directors Jarred Osborn and Julian Lucas, production team LIPS) which depict a relationship in disrepair starring Acquroff and Vanessa Crouch.
