Watch: Black Yaya - "Under Your Skin" [Premiere]
Black Yaya, the new alter-ego of David Ivar (Herman Dune), is airing his new video for single "Under Your Skin" exclusively on Best Fit.
Speaking about the video, Ivar explained his desire to go back to basics:
“Sometimes I feel like music videos lose the song with heavy narrative, too much storytelling or acting. I miss videos in which you just see the artist singing or playing or both, sometimes...
"I love photography, and portraits in general, and this video is pretty much a portrait of me and Mayon, who sings back up on the whole album, performing Under Your Skin. Somehow the title of the song made us want to wear our skin-tight wetsuits for the video, FYI, still wet. We shot it in Eagle Rock (Los Angeles, CA) in a cool practice place we knew out there. I trust Frank's eye for the photography, and loved editing the video with my own perception of the pace, the beat, the rhythm.”
The track is bouncy, tropical-infused folk-pop tune - think Father John Misty meets Noah and The Whale - with cooing oohs and jaunty surf licks. It's super peppy, and it'll put you right in the mood for summer frolics. The video's a simple affair, and sees Yaya and Mayon (beats 'n' backing vox) don wetsuits to rock out.
Black Yaya, Iver's debut LP under his new guise, is released 2 March via City Slang.
Iver will also trek to the UK to perform at London's The Lexington on 9 April.
