Watch: April Towers - "Arcadia" [Premiere]
Nottingham duo April Towers returned last week with soaring new single “Arcadia”, and the equally ambitious video premieres today on Best Fit.
There’s a lot of ambiguity in a name like “Arcadia”: is there some link to the pastoral idea of utopia? Was it inspired by the Tom Stoppard play? Were the boys on vacation in Greece? Rather than give a simple explanation, the video only adds to the mystery. Over the kind of big 80’s synth sounds that M83 has famously rediscovered and re-appropriated in recent years, we follow a beautiful female protagonist on her journey to… well, that’s the question isn’t it?
By the time of the final chorus—which you’ll be singing along to after just one listen—our heroine has followed a series of portals (which look suspiciously like the single’s cover art) to the kind of heights that the music promises. Viewers aren’t invited to follow her on her final journey; sadly, we’ll have to wait for the sequel. If it comes with more tunes like this, it's sure to be a blockbuster.
