War Strings unveils fuzzy new single “Tragedy (Lovesong)” in anticipation of defiant debut album
“Tragedy (Lovesong)”, the latest offering by Los Angeles based artist War Strings, emits a sense of yearning leading up to the release of debut record Who Cares How It Ends.
Missouri born and Los Angeles based musician Andrew Stogel has been perfecting his craft since his teenage years. From fronting acclaimed indie-psych band Dreamer Dose and shoegaze infused pop outfit LOVEYOU, to new solo project War Strings, Andrew Stogel has exhibited the gumption needed to make it on the indie music scene.
His latest single “Tragedy (Lovesong)” (produced by Chris Coady, perhaps best known for his work for Yeah Yeah Yeahs) has a lo-fi feel and is laced with hazy guitar riffs that will swirl in your head. This new, moodier sound is a clear departure from Stogel’s previous projects as his evolution as an artist reflects the challenges thrown at him over the past two years.
A major head injury disrupted Stogel’s creative progression to the point where he was bedridden for almost eight months. Due to this shift in environment, Stogel found new ways to push forward in his solo career. While adapting to immobility and life in isolation, he took it upon himself to find recording engineers that could help bring his creative ideas to life.
Born out of adversity comes Who Cares How It Ends, the debut album by War Strings. A fitting antidote to Stogel’s struggles, he dives into themes of love, depression, sorrow and light, all of which perfectly tie together to bring us this emotive new record.
