Von Spar's "Chain Of Command" is a beautiful mesh of worlds
Cologne-based krautrock/post-punk quartet Von Spar are sharing new tune "Chain Of Command" on Best Fit.
The track is set to feature on upcoming LP Streetlife, which is out 29 April via Tin Angel.
The band have accrued some big-name fans (like Irmin Schmidt and Jaki Liebezeit of Can), as well as a cult following in their native Germany, but Streetlife looks to be the release that propels them into the international consciousness.
"Chain Of Command" - the opener on Streetlife - takes a few core elements of krautrock, but shares more similarities with The National than Neu!. It's a gorgeous, melancholic ode, with tear-stained disco keys, rippling beats, stringy flourishes, and a smooth pop baritone - it's warm and welcoming despite the maudlin overtones, and makes their impending burst into our lives very exciting indeed. This is a cinematic sashay across multiple genres, and far from a cluttered knot of noise, it's a streamlined thing of beauty.
Chris Cummings, aka Marker Starling/Mantler, features on four Streetlife cuts. Scout Niblett (Drag City) and Ada (Pampa Records) also contribute.
