Welsh vocalist Violet Skies aired her breathtaking debut track “How The Mighty” yesterday.
Produced by Londoner (and MNEK affiliate) Axel Kacoutie, whose heady grooves and oscillating undersea bass pops jar magnificently with the rippling, spartan piano solos that bookend the track. Recalling the recent sleek soul-pop crossover hits of Jessie Ware – and latterly Woman’s Hour and Rosie Lowe – Violet’s gentle tone trickles like honey over the elegant orchestration: tolling keys, buttery bass notes and clinking percussive elements. A strikingly beautiful, and utterly unexpected composition.
