Listen: VEYU – “Everlasting” [Premiere]
Liverpool quintet VEYU have been making waves in their hometown for some time now. Their promising track “Running” earned them comparisons to Wild Beasts and MONEY, and with their new release “Everlasting” (debut AA single with “Running”) it’s clear they’ve earned their hype as ones to watch.
Opening with a focus on singer Adam Bresnen’s choral tone, the song quickly develops into the off-kilter indie pop we’ve come to expect of the group. The sense of familiarity is brief, before the track descends into a nebulous, swirling instrumental, with the vocals superseded by a tangle of languishing guitars and an insistent bassline.
Their sound is not too far removed from a lot of guitar bands predicted similarly bright futures. That said, while many of their contemporaries produce inconsequential bursts of aural amusement, there’s something substantial about VEYU. As the title suggests, the cut lingers, embracing you in its mood and leaving you in a dreamy haze you can’t quite shake.
“Everlasting/Running” is out on 24 March. Pre-order here.
