Swedish trio Vero exude effortless cool on new single "Hello"
Stockholm's Julia Vero has been making great electronic pop music for a few years, but she's gone and dropped the first name and expanded her setup to a trio. Now, meet the alt.pop brilliance of Vero.
On "Hello", which acts as a calling card befitting of the name, the supremely talented Vero (who's been remixed by the likes of Ji Nilsson, Death Team and 1987 in the past) and co give us a sleazily slow grunge jam.
The guitars are detuned, the synths sound like they've been ripped from Bowie's "Fashion" but the highlight is Vero's cool af, detached vocal, which acts as much as a fuck you as it does a come-on.
"Hello is fun. We wrote it in a weekend and just tried to * capture our essence * while drinking sparkling wine (you can hear a “clink” from a wine bottle in the song actually)," says singer Vero. "It’s great to listen to it when you angry-walk around town. We work a lot with drum machines since we really don’t want or need a drummer in our band. That’s why we got inspired by hacienda-style rhythms, which fuels the track next to the most annoying guitar sound ever. So, yeah. We wanted to get all things that we like in to one track, and maybe that is why it was so easy writing it. Dig it."
As a change of direction and style, "Hello" is as accomplished as you'll get and is testament to Julia Vero's talent for song writing.
