Vaughan explores the compulsive desire to fall in love on new single "BitCrushed"
British singer/songwriter Thomas Harvey, aka Vaughan, has unveiled his new single "BitCrushed", which explores the addictiveness of falling in love.
"BitCrushed" is both tense and tender, and sees Harvey project his candid lyrics of relishing the feeling of falling in love, and the pain that comes with it.
The electronic instrumental offers a cold backdrop for the raw lyrics. Vaughan sings tenderly over a minimalistic melody that mimics a heartbeat in the opening verse, further emphasising the personal nature of the track.
As the song builds, the melody becomes more atmospheric before lunging into the melancholic chorus with bursts of sharp percussion and rumbling electronica. The crash of instrumentals reiterates his desire to fall in love as Vaughan sings, "But I want love with all its might / What if I get a bit crushed?"
Vaughan says of the new track, which was written with producer Thomas Rawle, "I knew falling in love was bad for me, yet all I wanted was to drink up every drop of it. My feelings were torn by my over-thinking and underestimating and I wondered if I had found this almighty love that we all crave, or if I had been crushed before I had the chance."
He adds of the production, "Thom [Rawle] has this magnetic way of creating extroverted sounds and I love the way they seem to melt and dissolve. We were on a bit of a mad scientist tangent, just turning knobs and listening to the swells and throbs of his analogue synthesisers."
