Ex-Saturday Vanessa White shines on soulful solo track “Low Key”
She might not be the highest profile ex-pop group member going solo right now, but Saturdays alumna Vanessa White is definitely worth your time.
It’s easy to be sceptical, but the maturity of White’s sound as she ditches glossy pop for slinky 00s-influenced R&B is a welcome change.
“Low Key” sees her working with rapper Illa J and producer Chloe Martini to serve up what ought to have been the song of the summer. It’s a fresh, aptly laid-back track that allows White’s effortless vocal gymnastics to shine alongside Illa J’s deadpan delivery. Martin’s production brings everything to life with a smooth bassline and plenty of feel-good vibes.
The track is taken from White’s upcoming solo EP Chapter 2, out later this year. In the meantime, check out “Low Key” on Spotify.
