Vacances offer up nostalgia and existential advice on new cut “Human”
Steeped in 80s new-wave influences with infectious pop melodies, “Human” is the latest release from New York’s Vacances.
Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Danny Lannon is the man behind the project and its time-warping sound. Originally a three-piece, Lannon steps out on his own under the same moniker with “Human”, following 2016’s Last Summer EP.
“Never forget I’m just like you,” Lannon croons as the track begins. Discussing the origins of the track, Lannon explains "I wrote this song while finding out news about my friend Barrett Clark passing in the Oakland fire.”
“Everything on the news and in my life had been really dark, and I wanted to push something that really helped me deal and push that feeling through.” The song deals with the feelings of experiences of letting go of memories and remembrance, but as Lannon tell us he “wanted to bring to light that people are just people and we forget how fragile that is.”
“Human” offers resolution in the solace that we are all human and we manage to carry on, because that’s what we do. As his first solo effort, additional production from The Kickdrums (Adele, Kanye West) it shows the potential the Vacances project has and the highs it can reach.
