Eclectic producer Tyzo Bloom shares lo-fi hip hop bop "Tom Cruise"
From a dusty demo to the centrepiece of his new EP, "Tom Cruise" discusses sexual fluidity over Bloom's dreamy production.
Tyzo Bloom aka Casey Chen records and produces all his music at home his garage. A classically trained cellist and pianist Chen spent most of his youth in Japan. After graduating from Berklee, he started his music career as a studio runner with artists like Miguel and Elton John.
Teasing his forthcoming second EP, "Tom Cruise" follows Chen's collaborations with LA-based singer/songwriter Minke on "BEDROOM" and punk-inclined Brooklyn band Pom Pom Squad with "TV". Flitting between hip hop ("Tom Cruise"), alternative ("TV") and more straight-up pop ("BEDROOM") comes naturally to Bloom.
Celebrating the release of the track on Instagram he suggests its status as a bonus track is thanks to its age, saying "["Tom Cruise"] was an old song sitting on my computer collecting dust."
Why put a label on something, why step things up, why seek to define something that doesn't need to be defined if right now things are great? "All I wanna do is cruise" is the track's defining statement.
An exciting step into a different direction for Chen, his forthcoming body of work is set to showcase even more of the talented producer's abilities – especially when it comes to splicing and scrambling genres into his relaxed, chilled soundscapes.
