Gothenburg's Tyred Eyes go epic dream-rock on new single “Estuary”
Tyred Eyes’ history as a band has been a shapeshifting one so far, the group having gone through several line-up changes since their formation in 2009. Their line-up is more settled these days, and they’re back with new track “Estuary”.
“Estuary” is Tyred Eyes’ take on smooth dream-rock. Powered by a shuffling drum beat, paired with supple, intertwining guitar and bass riffs, it comes together into a solid base for Johanna Hellqvist’s vocals, alternatively numbed and pained, which stretch out over the song. As it builds up, more and more elements begin to drip into the song, all swirling together into a powerful, soaring piece of smartly constructed alt-rock.
The band say: “'Estuary' has been living in our little universe for a long long time. It started with an improvised bass line that Erik [Toresson Hellqvist] played during soundchecks, and it slowly developed during the years. When we were at the end of recording our new album, Destroy Everything You, we decided to give the song a try, even though we only had that bassline. We recorded it together with drums and then added multiple layers of synths, guitars and effects. The song melody and the lyrics were the last pieces of the puzzle, when we recorded the vocals everything just came together perfectly, and many of us hold it to be the best song on the record.”
