Liverpool collective Two Islands deliver with effervescent debut single "Heaven"
Incorporating spritely guitars and glimmering overtones, "Heaven" revels in the same spritely indie-pop realm inhabited by acts such as The Ramona Flowers and Echo and the Bunnymen.
The end result is a slice of pop that is textured and atmospheric, its persistent and funk-infused bassline propelling the momentum forwards, with the lo-fi production only adding to the charm of the track. Alongside the bittersweet video - akin to nostalgically flicking through photo albums of your carefree, heathenous adolescence (or a detour through an old Tumblr) – "Heaven" feels aptly fitting for a debut.
"Heaven knows the road’s been long, I’ve been waiting for this day to come," refrains the chorus, twisting the unassuming track into an anthem of reclaimed joy. The band is loath to disclose their identities, instead intending for their music to speak for itself. "We want to reclaim the romance of falling in love with an artist solely through their songs, something that has been lost in the internet era,” state the band. “We're not looking to hide, we just want to engage through our music alone.”
