Sweden's Tungorna creates a brooding sound collage on the gracefully danceable "NOSA"
Being signed to iamamiwhoami's To Whom It May Concern label gives you some idea of the artful inventiveness lurking within Johan Lundgren's Tungorna project.
The sound of "NOSA", Tungorna's debut single is one of 80s synth pop (tinny percussion, Stranger Things-esque buzzing ambience) meets experimental and modern dance music. Lundren drops in snippets of vocal samples in between the throbbing, insistent beats. It's an unsettling atmosphere, yet it also feels eminently worthy of dancing to in the darkness of a club.
Of working with To Whom It May Concern, Lundgren explains that "with their label, they have formed an inspiring environment, with their music and the world surrounding it, keeping total control, not only of the creative process but also the production, without some guy in a suit intervening." It's clearly led to Tungorna embracing his creative side with a beautiful piece of music.
