Swedish sensation Tula subverts her dark-pop tendencies on the euphoric "Colours"
Moving away from the Portishead-esque trip-hop of recent single "Bullet", the latest outing by the Berlin-based artist incorporates a brighter and lighter tone that brushes aside any aforementioned eeriness for a blissfully understated outing.
"Colours" is the second track to be unveiled from Tula's forthcoming EP SKIN which saw the artist collaborate with Klas Åhlund, who has worked with the likes of Madonna and fellow Swedish pop royalty Robyn whose own romantic electro-pop sound bears many a similarity to that of Tula’s new track.
“I’m hearing all your colours,” intones Tula in her synaesthesiac ode to the wonders around her. Understated and restrained despite its pop attributes and bubbling synth, "Colours" slowly builds as Tula’s awe intensifies, the lush palpitations and layers of stomping beats mimicking the undulated bliss of their creator. Neither quite reach the satisfaction of climax.
“I hear in colours,” shares Tula, touching upon the condition that merges the experience of senses which are not typically connected. “Every voice, every sound and tone is connected to a colour in my mind.”
