True Noir live up to their name on second single "Youth" [Premiere]
Brighton-based five-piece True Noir follow up the Big Bang of “Creation” with “Youth”, premiering on Best Fit.
Though often compared to Wolf Alice, “Youth” is further evidence that True Noir owe far more to '80s darkwave (think Cocteau Twins) than to the grunge and indie of the '90s. The band insists that summer was a key influence on their second single, and the heat is palpable; the bass moves with a swampy swagger that would feel right at home on the True Detective Season One soundtrack. Resonating minor sevenths leave ample room as they dance around that bounce, but there’s little else to breathe but thick air and dim acoustic rhythm guitars.
Just when things might start to get stifling, the lead guitar pops off like LED fireworks, breaking through the humidity with explosive spikes of overdriven treble powerful enough to press time into a flat circle.
