Tropic Harbour use self-care to combat panic attacks on ambient electro jam "Softness"
It takes a strength of character to take chronic panic attacks and make art from your response to them – particularly art which is as tender and vulnerable as "Softness", the new single from Tropic Harbour.
With distorted electronics that flicker like a candle flame juddering in a draft over delicate synth melodies, "Softness" is an immersive ambient soundscape that pulls in elements of electro-pop to capture the imagination of its listeners. It paints a hazy, downtempo portrait of life's mundanaities, turning them over reverently to find joy and comfort in the smallest of details. Its overall message is simple – be kind to yourself, and the rest will one day follow.
In the words of Tropic Harbour's Mark Berg: "The track 'Softness' is about being gentle with yourself and taking time for self-care. It documents a specifically bad day I had after fighting a chronic panic attack where I decided to lay back down in my bed, wrap myself in covers and wait for the day to pass. The overarching premise is about finding inner peace among all the noise that can build up in one's head."
"Softness" is accompanied by an appropriately cool-toned visual, of which Berg explains: "The video we shot for this song is an outward look into people's lives. It's a series of portraits of self-care with a variety of different approaches, unique to each person in the film."
Next time you're feeling alone in the world, give this one a spin and see if it can help guide you back to that peaceful headspace it articulates so well.
