Toby Kaar's cyborg-sermon jam "Promises" blends robo vocals and bare beats
London-based producer Toby Kaar today unveils "Promises", a thundering mash of cyber-pop vocals and hip-hop beats.
The sizzling new cut is a twisted fusion of reverent melodies, roboticised voices (think Daft Punk dialled up to 11), and booming percussion - it's a non-stop rampage through ambiguous emotion that doesn't let you take a breather during the enture 4:22 duration, galloping forwards while extra sinews and layers clamber on board.
"I started making music when my brother downloaded a cracked copy of Fruity Loops 4," Kaar revealed when his debut EP Gumbrielle dropped last spring. "I started making loops and patterns, with no musical theory. It was more the shapes I was interested in. That's still the case. The interest in actual music came after that - making the stuff got me into other people's work."
