tiLLie grapples with her mental health on the haunted carousel of new track "Mood Swings"
tiLLie's "Mood Swings" channels the same nursery on acid vibe as Melanie Martinez, all sweetly sing-song vocals over production that oozes with creeping menace.
Lyrically, the track focuses on tiLLie's experiences grabbling with her own mental health; a picture that isn't a particularly pretty one to paint. "Don't tell me to chill out / When I'm in the middle of a fucking breakdown" she snarls, briefly letting the mask slip before a painted smile is replaced – it's an eerily familiar feeling for those with similar experiences of emotional suppression. The note of desperation underlying tiLLie's vocal as she swings back into that haunted carousel of a chorus makes for a track that's hard to tear yourself away from.
"Mood Swings" is lifted from tiLLie's forthcoming EP Loud Mouth, due out this Friday. It features alongside title track "Loud Mouth" (reminiscent of Alice Merton), boisterous previous single "Faith", and the vulnerable yet anthemic new cut "Whole Wide World".
