Brighton dream-pop outfit Thyla debut dreamy comeback single "Ferris Wheels"
The four-piece - who began to cause a stir in late 2015 with tracks including "Us and Them" and "Car Crash" - return with their first single in a year and prove that they are hell-bent in on improving their game.
Emerging with lush guitar tones, "Ferris Wheels" gains momentum with driving rhythms and earworm melodies. It’s hard to shrug off the affably charming vocal of Thyla’s singer and guitarist Millie Duthie as she effortlessly weaves her words around the defiantly euphoric chorus - one that practically begs to be an anthem of the band’s live set. The time spent reinvigorating their sound is palpable, for "Ferris Wheels" is joyously buoyant in a manner that contrasts with the grungier sound of previous single "Motherlode".
"You think I’m in denial when I’m holding a feeling I can’t touch, searching for meaning when there’s none," Duthie softly croons, dissecting that feeling of not being good enough for those around you. "How can I forget all those things you never said" On this side of the fence Thyla need not worry; no one will be forgetting the sun-soaked nostalgia of "Ferris Wheel" any time soon.
