Brightonian Theo Verney’s fuzzed-up, toughened-up melodic expulsion, ‘Count It Up’, encompasses and channels an angsty and acrid garage-psych sound.
The track is taken from 22-year-old Verney’s forthcoming EP Heavy Sunn - out via Hate Hate Hate Records – and delivers a scuzzy, heady, grunge-stained minute and a half burst of euphoria. The song ascends quickly into a brazen, full bodied purge of a chorus wherein Verney’s coarse, sandpaper vocals compliment the psych-rock reverberations and flittering wash of guitar.
Despite creating untamed and raucous garage, it’s far from cacophonous, or discordant; instead, ‘Count It Up’ thrives off his masterfully crafted melodies and layered production for which he is too, responsible.
Heavy Sunn will be released on 21 October via Hate Hate Hate on limited 10” vinyl.
