The Will bloom slowly and darkly on debut single "LookLookLook [Datura]"
If you want to know what a Datura is, you can take a stroll over to Wikipedia, who'll tell you it's a poisonous flower also known as devil's trumpet, devil's weed and hell's bells (alright, we get the idea, goth flower). If you want to know who The Will are, you can take a quick look into recent Swedish music history.
This is the band's debut single, but bandleader Ida Bergman has already established a reputation for herself as a member of the psych-rock band SAN (as well as being Amason's Amanda Bergman's sister).
The Will is her new project, and their first release was inspired by a trip Bergman took to South America, where she learned about the flower's spiritual role in shamanic culture and the myths attached to it, and became captivated by its dual qualities of beauty and toxicity. "LookLookLook [Datura]" tries to translate those qualities into music.
It's a heavy, slow song, built around Bergman's voice, which spreads and blooms like obsession taking over a person. It's compelling in a murky, mysterious way - just like a certain plant you might have heard of.
"This nocturnal song of longing for the unspoken, grew in me as a mantra to surrender for the night," says Bergman of the track. "Like a Sphinxmoth to Datura, I was put on a journey to search and reveal hidden and unspoken desires. When fear is gone, there is both power and love. It is the same with the Datura as the human hand. It can caress and create as well as possess and destroy. Use both heart and mind while you meditate on that...”
