The Rare Occasions search for a relief from reality on new track "Mercy Mercy"

The LA-via-Providence band have already made an impact with their distinctive, experimental garage rock and mark the release of their debut album with blistering new song "Mercy Mercy".

On "Mercy Mercy", The Rare Occasions draw upon a whole multitude of inspirations. It's a kaleidoscope of experimental rock that dips and dives between more indie-rock sensibilities, hop-scotching across classic rock guitar solos but always retaining the pounding darkness of garage rock at its heart by utilising a sinister riff that rears its head repeatedly throughout the track.

The band have explained how the track is meant to be something of a cathartic remedy to help them deal with the current issues that face the world, using their music as something of an escape mechanism.

In their own words they say: "Our generation is faced with some disturbing historical developments. As prosperity once again shifts away from the workforce, many of us find our time entirely consumed with just getting by. This looming reality can make the repetitive struggles of everyday wickedly demoralising. We cry out for relief over a raucous 7/4 breakdown, and it makes us feel a little better."

It's the first track to come from their upcoming debut album, entitled Into The Shallows, which is due to be released on 25 May. The fantastic artwork from David Navas perfectly compliments up the fragmented layering and complexity of their sound, and it will no doubt be an expressive and intense statement of an album.

Into The Shallows will be released on 25 May.
