The New Spring announces new album with the fragile shuffle of lunar homage "The Moon"
After a prolific start, Danish artist The New Spring hasn't released a record since 2014. Today, though, they're back with a new single and a new album.
The project of Bastian Kallesøe, The New Spring have always taken a more lilting approach to guitar music than any of Kallesøe's previous bands - and "The Moon" is no different.
Shuffling around on a pitter-patter of drums, and a faintly funky guitar line (which has echoes of latter-day Paul Simon) and synth wash, the track shimmers and wobbles on the verge of collapse...yet Kallesøe holds it together with a charming vocal augmented with angelic female backing vocals. It's a delightfully fragile pop song, and a welcome return.
“I’ve always been obsessed with the moon, and I’ve written countless songs to it and about it," says Kallesøe."However, this is the first to get on an album. Most of what we think we know about the moon is a lie. Man has never walked on the moon and will never do so. The moon is as far away as the most distant of stars, and we are doomed to admire it from afar while imagining that it's close. In addition, moonlight is not a reflection of the sun's light - the light actually comes from a source in the moon’s core.”
