Listen: The Naked Eye - "Embrace Me"
With only dozens of miles from shore to muddy shore, France and England have met many times throughout the ages, predominantly for battle. With 21st century relations eased, The Naked Eye are a soul-melting manifestation of our Anglo-Français détente.
The duo are inspired by the likes of Flying Lotus, Billie Holiday and Little Dragon. Deriving from their stimulus, they potently fuse a new brand of achy groove in their new single. “Embrace Me”. The song introduces itself with an eerie ghost-like soundscape, lullabying the unwitting listener into a state of contented sedation. It then oozes into a deluge of syrupy honey-silk keyboard tones, funky bass flourishes and expansive space-synth motifs. Singer Frenchie embellishes the track with a vocal reminiscent of midnight jazz lounges and expensive single malt whiskey. Overall, the song is an honest work, and ripe with class.
