The Milk debut Stax-style banger "Trouble Gonna Bring Me Down" [Premiere]
London four-piece The Milk are showcasing the explosive “Trouble Gonna Bring Me Down”, the latest from their forthcoming sophomore effort. It premieres today on Best Fit.
“Trouble Gonna Bring Me Down” is unadulterated Stax-style soul, a dazzling blend of guitars that swim through wah-wah, a slinking bass that would make Duck Dunn proud, jazzy piano chords that hit just the right notes while leaving plenty of unexplored space, and horns that burst forth with “Soul Man” levels of authority.
Though the sounds—and the sentiment, for that matter—are classic, there’s nothing about “Trouble Gonna Bring Me Down” that appears tried on or inauthentic. The Milk aren’t just retro-leaning upstarts recreating the music of their iconic influences; instead, they sound like a band that’s just finding their groove.
The band's Rick Nunn says of the single: "For me, 'Trouble' sounds like a movie that I can't wait to see; the brooding beginning of a dark tale. When writing the new record we strived to write songs which had cinematic qualities about them. Few songs on the album beat 'Trouble' in that department. I love it, especially with some big cans on and a whole load of pavement to walk down."
Favourite Worry, the band’s second album, is set for release 16 October.
