The Masks are back and “Chasing Glory” with an assist from Rossi Riko [Premiere]
Ahead of the release of their debut EP, The Masks are sharing “Chasing Glory”, a collaboration with rising UK rapper Rossi Riko, premiering today.
Though an early draft of “Chasing Glory” produced by Riko himself surfaced two years ago, the version presented here is less a rework and more a total reconstruction. The beat is sleek, almost tropical, and Riko’s flow is unhurried and relaxed to suit the mood even as he outlines the numerous obstacles he and others have experienced on the road to success.
It all closes with a clever, empowering reveal: “All my life I’ve been chasing the glory” Riko says. In the end, though, he realizes he’s only “been chasing [him]self”; real glory only comes from the awareness that what’s inside is more powerful than any hurdles in the outside world.
Speaking about the track, the band says: "We wrote this song with Riko after a conversation about personal and social unrest and our desire to be happy. And how the evidence of our desire is pursuit! But we often find ourselves pursuing the wrong things until we realise the answers lie within us."
