Mysterious collective The Hour traverse trauma with new release “Overdue”
The first single to be taken from their forthcoming sophomore EP Father - to be released this spring - The Hour continue to capture imaginations with “Overdue”.
Emerging from nowhere in early 2019 with merely an air of mystique, The Hour drew immediate attention with their masked appearance, monochrome imagery, arresting visuals and - of course - their ominous music. It is this stance that continues to draw sizeable intrigue as they persist in shirking any online presence and staple social media accounts.
Following on from last year’s debut EP Mother, The Hour’s forthcoming counterpart collection Father once again tugs at the heartstrings with the expansive atmospherics and bright, rich synths of its lead single. Seamlessly flitting between swelling soundscapes and abrupt silence, “Overdue” marries elements of Bon Iver and The 1975, but recounts a tale that is ultimately rooted in trauma.
“‘Overdue’ is about losing a child before it’s born,” shares vocalist Josh of the collective’s new release. “It’s about longing for something so badly for so long, only for it to be lost before it ever comes to pass. It’s about love and hope and trying to move forward as best we can.”
