Mystery UK collective The Hour release more haunting alt-pop with "Coming Up For Air"
With some of the most compelling singles of 2019, anonymous outfit The Hour is looking to become one of the more buzzed about acts of the year, delivering more heat with their latest single "Coming Up For Air", lifted from their ominous debut project, Mother.
"Coming Up For Air" boasts a sultry, open air pop vibe that manages to feel both huge and intimate at the same time. The buttery vocals provide a perfect buffer between the industrial beats and spacey tremolo guitar. The lyrics come a mile a minute and are often direct and personal, perhaps the only thing the band is not keen on encrypting in mystery.
On describing the track, the enigmatic band members didn't mince words, saying, “I fell out with my mother. This is for her." Indeed, there's a soulful sense of loss that pervades the track, as if the singer is trying to reconcile his hurt while admonishing the blame.
The track fully delivers on the promise of their first two singles: the spacious intensity of “Wasted” and ominous “Answer”. It's an atmospheric pop confection that continues to tease their musical potential.
