The Holy are as grand as their name on new singles "Twilight Of The Idiots" / "No Trial In The Dark"
Finland's The Holy are back with their powerful double single "Twilight Of The Idiots" / "No Trial In The Dark", the two opening tracks from their sophomore LP Mono Freedom.
"Twilight Of The Idiots" and "No Trial In The Dark" are the first new tracks from the Finnish quintet since their 2018 debut album Daughter.
Mono Freedom's opening track "No Trial In The Dark" oozes with psychedelic euphoria as the synths warp graciously over a victorious guitar melody. Both elements pave the way for Eetu Iivari's powerful voice, which leads the track into its anthemic core.
Bouts of glitchy and hazy electronica propel the track higher, creating static on the elegant ascent. In the second half of the track, The Holy exhaust their electronic instruments and let the synths subside for a scaling piano melody, which acts like a chance to catch your breath after experiencing the chaotic haze they unleashed just before. The sparse piano is only there for a moment before The Holy reopen the valve for their grand sound to flood through.
The second track on the LP, "Twilight Of The Idiots", opens with a grand piano melody that feels like galloping through an untouched valley of tall trees while being surrounded by mountains. The power of the track - both vocally and sonically - is infectious, and breathes a motivational positivity that is undoubtedly refreshing.
As the track approaches its final chorus, The Holy let their instruments collide, creating an explosion of euphoria as Iivari unleashes an intense, final vocal outburst.
Iivari says of the double single, "I always wanted them to go out at the same time and they do follow each other on the album for a reason. The tracks open the window to The Holy’s inner world of 2020 - way deeper than just releasing a regular single."
