Listen: The Derevolutions – “Now You Know My Name”
Boston duo The Derevolutions continue cranking out the jams for a summer that hasn’t quite arrived with “Now You Know My Name”, their catchiest, most complete track to date.
Like Foster the People’s Mark Foster, Brett Boucher—the primary creative force behind The Derevolutions—got his start making music for advertisements. That experience seems to inform his self-released work, a collection of super-catchy pop tunes all made available for free on soundcloud. “Now You Know My Name” is no exception: this is a collection of hooks—from the shiny, staccato lead guitar part to the whistled melody to the bizarre, warped vocal harmonies—all taking turns in the spotlight over an acoustic guitar that is constantly shuffling from chord to chord. If it sounds like a lot, it is. But unlike previous single “Pascualita”, which seemed to suffer from overly ambitious musical clutter, “Now You Know My Name” coalesces in to a contender for song of the summer.
