Listen: The Assyrians – “Baobab” [Premiere]
Progenitors of dreamy psych-rock from Milan, The Assyrians, have splashed out on production for latest release “Baobab”, a hodgepodge of fuzzy, psychedelic-grunge and acoustic melancholia.
Arriving as the second single from their scintillating debut album Tundra, “Baoab” combines funky bass and reverb-drenched guitar to create a demonic chordal sound blast, evoking images of a psychedelic Led Zeppelin catapulted into the stratosphere. Add this to the layered vocal dreamscape of the melody, and the Freddie Mercury-styled, dancehall piano tinklings, and we have a real rocker of a pop record.
The band’s debut album, Tundra, was released in November 2013 on Italian label Foolica Records, and is available worldwide. “Baobab” marks one of The Assyrians’ first forays into the UK market.
