"Monsters In Your Bedroom" is an eloquent, blues-inspired confessional from Tertia May
Tertia May first caught our attention with the dusky brilliance of "White" earlier this year, and with her new track "Monsters In Your Bedroom" she further exemplifies her talent for effortlessly meshing together a hotbed of inspiration into something that sounds unique and exciting.
Tertia May is a singer who has something in her voice that feels as though it belongs to another age - that kind of classic, whiskey-smokiness that never goes out of fashion and belongs to those records you stumble across and end up cherishing as a special belonging, returning to again and again and never tiring of its magic.
"Monsters In Your Bedroom" embodies a classic soul vibe, where May performs both for our audible pleasure but also as a cathartic way of dealing with the many emotions she feels abour her father's troubles. In true blues style, it faces melancholic issues with a kind of wistful abandonment, utilising clever, often joyful melodies as a cloak for the inner pain and complexity that lies underneath.
The track comes alongside the annoucement of May's debut EP, entitled Kind Of Purple, which is due to be released on 8 June via Twisted Heart Records.
