Emcee TeeF resurrects horrorcore on pitch-black The Last Skeptic production "Bathe in Flames"
TeeF's latest single "Bathe in Flames" sees him solidify his gnarly brand of alt rap.
Having sharpened his claws as part of Mike Skinner and Murkage Dave's Tonga collective, TeeF is now digging out a place of his own in UK rap. Today's new single is steeped in references to the Occult, TeeF's voice urgent and percussive as he describes a life lived on the edge of morality. The beat – a concoction of terse live drums and buzzing electric guitars – is produced by veteran hip hop producer and Kojey Radical collaborator The Last Skeptic.
The Nigerian-born, Hackney-raised emcee checks The Mars Volta, Tool and The Dillinger Escape Plan as influences – but he's also a MF DOOM fan, as evidenced by the unfussy swagger of last single “buckit”. “Bathe in Flames” hails the release of his next EP, All Hell Will Rise, a follow-up to 2018's Hurry Up and Die.
TeeF says of the track:
"The track is a bit of an ode to one of my favourite lyricists to ever grace the mic, who’s like some sort of horrorcore turned emo Satanist rapper. It has that title ["Bathe in Flames"] cause I felt like I was saying some blasphemous shit. I'd imagine if a God did exist, they would send me to the pits of Hell to enjoy for eternity. "Bathe in Flames" is a continuation of me forever existing... existential angst music. This life is just hard for me to fathom and I guess as long as I feel that way my music will just reflect that."
