Ted Jasper creates a harmony of club production and breezy vocals on “Stone Cold Kisses”
Singer-songwriter-come-house-DJ Ted Jasper's bold new track “Stone Cold Kisses” is released today alongside the announcement of his new five-track EP Equinox.
With an already extensive and varied back-catalogue, including his 2018 One Day EP released via Radio 1Xtra's Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce imprint, Ted Jasper is making a name for himself as a dynamic new artist.
London-based Jasper’s typically textured but understated style permeates his new track "Stone Cold Kisses", with crisp strings and textured piano loops in a stylish marriage of his DJ pedigree and developing songwriting ability.
This balancing act is achieved through Jasper’s perfectionist nature, as he explains that often he’ll “upload the instrumental to Soundcloud and then listen to it through headphones and go on big walks around London or Cornwall. I’ll just keep going until I get it, no matter how long it takes.”
“I love putting little references to things I’m reading or thinking about in my songs – Icarus flying too close to the sun, Caliban being kept prisoner by Sycorax in The Tempest, those are all there in ‘Stone Cold Kisses’ – and that comes a lot easier when I’m on the move."
The new track very nearly didn’t come into existence at all, beginning life as a garage beat that Jasper was close to deleting. But his rediscovery of it meant that this nearly-discarded demo could grow into the multifaceted and alluring track it's now become.
“At least once a month I’ll go through all my unfinished projects and see if there’s anything that jumps out at me,” he explains. “I had this cute garage beat that felt really open so I started building it up and I ended up creating an arrangement that I was really excited to sing on.”
With his forthcoming EP and Giles Peterson, Laurent Garnier and Robert Owens part of his growing fanbase, 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Ted Jasper.
