Enigmatic Londoner Tamaraebi debuts the psychedelic R&B of new single “Brown Angel”
A storyteller with a modern edge for fans of The Weeknd, Prince and Miguel, Tamaraebi shares the R&B and psychedelic sound of “Brown Angel”. The new single is the first to be shared from forthcoming EP Spectrum.
Nigerian-born and London-based musician Tamaraebi is a captivating and enigmatic master of his craft. Creating woozy, swaying beats in the same vein as The Weeknd, Prince and Miguel, he elevates nostalgic sounds in tandem with inimitable skills as a wordsmith; he is a storyteller with a modern edge.
Behind Tamaraebi’s muddled thoughts and swaggering energy, he accentuates a perpetually dreamy sound. “Brown Angel” is the first track to be lifted from Tamaraebi’s new EP Spectrum and his blend of rich, sultry tones complement his R&B-meets-psychedelic sound, whilst reminding listeners of his sonic distinctiveness. His voice, especially when tossing out languid verses or succumbing to syrupy ad-libbing, is an instrument that always binds the groove together: Tamaraebi is his own best feature.
“’Brown Angel’ is a modern-day psychedelic blues song with hip hop and R&B undertones,” comments Tamaraebi of the single. “It’s been described as a stoner’s love song.
“The video was directed by Tatenda Jamera and we came up with the concept together. We shot it in an old pub in Peckham at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests last year. I wanted to do something visually that contributed to black art and also celebrated the varied beauty of blackness - from a fuller figured model to really dark-skinned ones. I wanted everyone to enjoy the beauty of blackness in its natural element, no matter what race they were.”
