Talent Show tackles existential dread on "Dead In The Ground"
Hartlepool troubadour James Leonard Hewitson is back to his quick-fire guitar-pop best under a new moniker.
Talent Show is the latest project from Hartlepool’s foremost exporter of deadpan indie-pop, James Leonard Hewitson. "Dead In The Ground" might be his first release under the new name, but it’s still the same catchy brand of no-nonsense, indie-pop that made the North East artist so endearing first time around.
At just over two minutes, the track is a fast and jangly helter skelter ride through existentialism and coming to terms with life’s inevitable mundanities. Ironically upbeat, with clap-along moments, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is a positively charged tune for these sunny summer days.
Hewitson explains in more detail, “I was unemployed and struggling with where to go next. “I’ve never felt sure of what I should do with my life and this song is a representation of that, and the realization that I need a better plan before things become more difficult. When I wrote this I was moaning at myself, but now, on my more boring days, I just purely accept them”.
