Sweetmates bring some coastal sunshine to the world on new track "Fever Dreams"
Sweetmates’ new track “Fever Dreams” is a sun-flecked dive into festival season. Combining the house-inspired electronic drums of producer Declan Rogers with singer/guitarist Sam Bunker’s emotional lyricism, they manage to straddle the indie/electro divide like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
Hailing from just outside Brighton, Sweetmates found their unique sound whilst working together in Southern Laos, messing around in the hours that they weren’t working and developing the tracks that eventually became their upcoming Disco Turd EP.
“Fever Dreams” is a product of these influences, the relaxed backing track bringing to mind long, sticky summer evenings, whilst Sam’s soulful vocals hint at a depth to the duo that they haven’t yet fully explored.
Whilst Sweetmates are very much bedroom producers, their sound has a perfectionist polish about it that’s a cut above the norm. “Could I be adored?” sings Sam throughout the track, his voice floating above an eddy of synths, guitars and drum claps. If the rest of the duo’s output is even nearly as good as “Fever Dreams", the answer is a resounding yes.
