Nashville-based Icona Pop songwriter SVRCINA develops her own sound on "Insecure"
SVRCINA (pronounced sur-cee-nah, if you were wondering), previously Molly Hunt, has been making waves since she dropped her debut EP Lover, Fighter in 2016.
Signing her first songwriting deal at the tender age of 13, SVRCINA became one of the youngest writers in Nashville with a major publishing deal. Now in her early twenties, she steps into her own spotlight as SVRCINA, seizing the opportunity to focus on her own artist project.
New single "Insecure" is the latest in a chain of releases stretching back to that first EP, including last year's eight-track self-titled album. It's a lilting shard of electro-pop that touches on the deeply relatable feeling of being messed around by someone who thinks you're a pushover. A staccato pre-chorus gives way to a swishy electronic refrain that will be bouncing around your brain for hours after giving the track its first spin.
"Insecure" drops along with its accompanying pastel-hued video, directed by Bree Marie Fish and starring the track's vocal producer Ian Keaggy in the role of unsatisfactory partner.
The pursuit of a solo career has so far been overwhelmingly successful for SVRCINA – to the tune of over 15 million Spotify streams – but it hasn't stopped her from sharing her songwriting talents with others. Indeed, a song SVRCINA wrote for Swedish megastars Icona Pop drops just this April.
