Suzi Wu announces debut EP and shares intoxicating brew "Teenage Witch"
London newcomer Suzi Wu - aka 19-year-old Suzie McDermott - enchants on her ramshackle pop concoction "Teenage Witch".
The laid-back track is the first taste of McDermott's Teenage Witch EP. "Teenage Witch" has the flippant wit of Courtney Barnett and raw magnetism of Wolf Alice mixed in - a pinch of Lorde's pop magic is sprinkled on top for good measure - but the track never feels derivative, with McDermott forging her own path towards greatness.
"'Teenage Witch' was inspired by the art works of comic book artist Simon Hanslemann," McDermott explains. "I was getting up at 10pm at night, I’d quit sixth form, my life was nocturnal and bizarre. A drive thru life, there is a poetry in that I think.”
