
"New Explorers" is the woozily psychedelic new single from Norwegian Stina Stjern
From the opening rudimental drum machine beat, there's a lot of charm to Stina Stjern's new single.
As "New Explorers" progresses, Stjern introduces cloudy, woozy synths which float around the Norwegian's reedy, beguiling voice. Piercing the ambience is a twanging guitar line (from Broen's Lars Ove Fossheim) and a gentle Krautrock pulse, perhaps inspired by being recorded (with the help of producer) Kyrre Laastad in the studio of Stereolab's Tim Gane.
There's a gentle orchestral beauty in "New Explorers" which fights against the songs dark themes. "It's about searching for yourself in toxic, symbiotic relationships," says Stjern. "That can occur when identifying too much with another person." There's always something to draw you into the darkness, and Stjern finds the perfect spot on this track.
