Melbourne's Static Animal debut their lethargic bedroom pop through "Majorca" [Premiere]
Whether it's the searing Australian sun or the soothing ebb and flow of the coast, Static Animal are a product of their hazy environment. Mellow bubbling synths and dreamy pop hooks are the modus operandi for crafting a sound that's as mellow as it is shimmeringly warm and bright.
As opening line "I'm so tired but I still find time" is sluggishly drawled, there's a sense of languidness that's not resultant of apathy but of the physical exertion of immersion in the external world. "Majorca" is a plea for a 'holiday' from the bustle of life: for solace within white-washed walls.
"The enigmatic group want to play music reminiscent of memory and how when played back in your mind you can make it appear more wild and real. Sometimes in the act of remembering you re-write your experience entirely."
An extremely limited run (10 cassette tapes) of Static Animal's EP is available via Sports Day Records.
