Starling’s “No Rest For The Wicked” is the apocalyptic pop track we all need right now
"I’m sick and tired of trying to be the nice girl" Starling sneers, on an anthem nasty woman everywhere will appreciate.
With a distinctive vocal, and an even more distinctive aesthetic, “No Rest For The Wicked” sees Starling delivering her straight-talking lyrics over an ominously slinky blues-influenced bassline. Echoing handclaps and staccato backing vocals tie the simple track together without overbaking it. “Take a seat with the freaks and the fighters, and enjoy the show” she urges listeners, which sounds suspiciously like a rallying cry, today of all days.
“No Rest For The Wicked” is the first track to be released from Starling’s upcoming EP, due out this Spring. As the track’s video signs off with a cryptic “To Be Continued”, it’s safe to say we’re looking forward to what’s to come. In the meantime, however, “No Rest For The Wicked” is the perfect track to stomp around to and celebrate the power of women in pop.
