Blood-sucking hospital vampires run riot on Squid's newest effort "The Dial"
"The Dial" is another electrifying offering from the Brighton outfit that shuns predictability in favour of exhilarating energy and excitement.
"The song is about a dear loved one – suffering a horrible illness in hospital," Explain Squid of their latest song's origins. "At the point the patients' blood is being taken by the nurse we imagined them all turning into vampires and sucking the blood from the patients. All we could think about was the red ‘dial’ of the weighing scales on the floor as it was happening – which is where the main lyric came from."
It's another quizically excellent take from Squid, a band who skilfully subvert all expectations and have cemented a reputation for hopscotching across genres. Never ones to be afraid of experimentation, "The Dial" sees them push their agenda further than ever before.
The track is riddled with their tightly-knit, angular guitar riffs that splice through with a jagged exulatation, building suspense before bursting and releasing the tension in meteoric fashion as lead singer Ollie Judge roars with explosive splendour as the guitars ricochet in every direction.
Ultimately, "The Dial" further cements Squid's position as one of the most exciting rising bands around right now.
