Speelburg charms with dextrous wordplay in new single “Million Air”
Hot on the heels of recent release “Oxy Cotton Candy”, Speelburg’s “Million Air” continues the playful psychedelic tones of his forthcoming album Character Actor.
Ditching the ever-grey weather of the UK (where he wrote “pop for important people”) for the sunnier climes of Los Angeles, Noah Sacré - man behind the moniker of Speelburg - is relishing penning brighter toned pop that is more synonymous with his current location.
“Everybody hates you. The don’t like me either / At least we’ve got each other,” croons the French-born singer-songwriter, whose penchant for playfully amusing lyrics continues in new single “Million Air”. The two people of this tale appear to be losers, but thankfully they’ve found each other in this overpopulated sea of fishes.
“I wanted to write a love song that sounded like the feeling you get when you walk by first class, then business class, and then get to economy - like, this sux, but we're in it together!” Shares Sacré of his new single. “Also, we're defying gravity together and that's pretty cool.” Rhythmic vocals and sing-a-long melodies spur the track along, as it is punctuated with bursts of keys and underpinned with dreamy currents of synth. It is a perfect millennial slice of wonky pop.
“When you're in those first days of infatuation, anytime you're near each other, it really does feel like the entire universe is in your rib cage pushing up against the walls trying to break free,” continues Sacré of the infatuation behind the lyrics. “The springtime of any relationship is always daisies and birdsong and, though the real world may try to elbow its way in between, you're just holding onto your bubble as tight as you can, for as long as you can.
