Listen: Some Minor Noise - "Melting" [Premiere]
Toronto lo-fi electro-pop duo Some Minor Noise have been using the web as their creative musical outlet for the last couple of years, gaining the attention of many by creating noise tracks inspired by abandoning society and delving into nature.
Comprised of suspiciously-named vocalist Jane Void and producer Wayne Doe, they are the exemplification of an ideal electro outfit in which the two members antithetically come together to create something unsettling and fun - see fellow Torontonians Crystal Castles - as can be heard on their latest release, “Melting”.
The track is an incredibly lean and crisp-sounding dance-paced ditty, with Void’s alluring voice dominating the musical layers of 8-bit synths. Lyrically perfect in its simplicity, the track puts across the point of view of the “other girl” of a one-night stand, surrendered and disillusioned, yet enamoured by the guy that is going back home to his girl. A twinkling synth melody, menacing drum machine and distorted bass line is all the track needs to set the mood for a night spent in a dark, fluorescent club, or in the duo’s case, a secluded rave into a jet-black forest.
Anachronisms is set to drop on 14 July.
