Listen: Soft Walls - "Guided Through" [Premiere]
Sometime Cold Pumas member and FAUX DISCX label owner Dan Reeves unveils the flickering psychedelia of new track “Guided Through” under the guise of Soft Walls.
Like watching time in slow motion, “Guided Through” gleams and quivers right in front of your eyes, one guitar tripping away spacewards while the other scrapes and scrabbles to keep afloat, laden down as it is with reverb and echo. Sandwiched in the middle is Reeves’ vocal and wistful melodies that are blurred by the surrounding noise. As dollops of psych rock are joined by nods towards Krautrock, the whole thing is bound together by a deliciously stagnant droney accompaniment.
It’s been a while since the self-titled long player dropped from the Brighton musician/label owner, but he’s still able to deftly demonstrate the ability to create engaging music that has craft, texture and most of all: atmosphere. Welcome back, Soft Walls.
“Guided Through” is taken from Soft Walls’ forthcoming album No Time, out on 29 July via Trouble In Mind.
