Snow Culture share blistering debut single "No Sleep"
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is the home of the studios where Britney Spears recorded "Hit Me Baby One More Time", the home of the ABBA museum, and also the home of duo Snow Culture, who today share debut single "No Sleep".
"No Sleep" is a dark pop track with multiple twists and turns as it snakes its way through its unconventional structure.
The track has three standout moments, the first of which is a guitar solo quite early on. As the understated vocals of the verse fade the song gets a new lease of life with this instrumental twist. There's then a spoken word section, which could easily be a sample from an old film. It sounds creepy and slightly ominous, and finishes by asking "When is the lift off?" which leads us to highlight number three: an incredible vocal riff. Laced with marimba and reminiscent of Tei Shi's epic belt in "Bassically", the final minute or so see Snow Culture claw their way out of the darkness and reach for the light.
"No Sleep" is accompanied by a music video that is quintessentially dark in its own right. Cigarettes, tattoos, parkour, bathtub hangs, and more are filtered to fit into the band's sleepless visions and spliced with scenes of people running through the snowy streets of Stockholm.
