Slonk releases dreamy new track as part of a new split single with Cagework
Last year Bristol-based bedroom artist Slonk knocked our socks off with a parade of gorgeous lo-fi gems, and now he's back with another excellent offering.
The release comes in the form of a split with Cagework (previously Selfish Son and American Enthusiasm). The tracks are "collaboratively recorded alternate versions" of songs already out in the world, and Cagework and Slonk perform on both tracks with the former taking the lead on "Utter Con" and the latter heading up "Tin Foil". Check both out below.
Slonk only released his I'm Losing My Mind On The Outside Of Everything EP last month, but he's back already with a new washed-out number that veers away from the punky and folky elements of his latest material. With echoing guitars, distant atmospheres, and an interpolation of his own anthemic number "We're Both Going To Be Fine" towards the end, he and Cagework create a tender ode full of sleep-deprived hooks and earnest vocals that punch you right in the solar plexus.
Is this a sign of more to come in 2018? Time will tell - but we do know that Slonk has a heap of material up his sleeves.
"I've had the follow up to Songs About Tanks [last year's record which features the original version of "Tin Foil"] recorded and ready to go since early summer," Slonk's Joe Sherrin told us late last year. "I should probably release that at some point... although I'm now so bored of it I already hate it and am halfway through writing another album."
